Monitoring & telematics for boats

GPS tracking for boats: security and control with GPScom Server

Do you know where your boat is at any given moment?

GPScom Technologies combines reliable GPS tracking devices, mobile connectivity and the GPScom Serverplatform to offer complete monitoring solutions for private boats, RIBs, sailing yachts and professional charter fleets.

The growth of marine tourism and the increasing use of leisure craft create a greater need for security, oversight and efficient management. With the right telematics solution, an owner or a charter company can check the position, course and activity of every boat from a computer or a phone.

✓ Live monitoring
✓ Route history
✓ GeoFence and alerts
✓ Fleet management

How does GPS tracking work on a boat?

The tracking device takes its position from the GNSS/GPS satellite systems and sends the data over the mobile network to GPScom Server. The authorised user can then see the boat on the map and receive information or alerts.

01
The device records Position, speed, heading, stops and whatever other data is available.
02
The SIM transmits The data is sent to the platform whenever mobile coverage is available.
03
You stay in control You monitor the fleet and receive alerts from a computer or a phone.

GPScom Server: the whole fleet on one platform

GPScom Server is GPScom Technologies' complete telematics platform. It lets you manage one boat or many from a single account, with secure access through a web browser and from your phone.

Capability What it gives you
Live monitoring The position and status of your boats on the map.
Route history A look back at previous movements, stops and events.
GeoFence An alert on entering or leaving a port, a marina or an area you define.
Alerts Events for speed, movement, loss of power or other available inputs.
Reports Consolidated figures on fleet usage and activity.

Control from wherever you are From the marina, the office or home, you can see all your boats in one place and react faster to anything unexpected.

What it gives charter companies

Professional boat charter needs a constant picture of the fleet without intruding on the customer's experience. With the right telematics solution you can:

Limit unauthorised use
With permitted operating zones and the right alerts.
Manage the whole fleet
With a single view of position, status and history.
Check routes and speeds
With detailed history and the reports available.
Organise servicing more effectively
With reminders and a clearer picture of how each boat is used.

Which GPS device suits a boat?

No one device suits every application. The choice depends on the type of boat, the battery life you want, how it will be installed, the power available and the alerts you need.

  • Ingress protection: Choose a model with an IP rating suited to where it will be mounted.
  • Permanent or standalone power: A hardwired device, or a tracker with an internal battery.
  • Backup battery: An alert, or continued operation, after a loss of power — where the device supports it.
  • Inputs and sensors: Connection to selected signals or additional sensors, depending on the hardware.
  • Correct installation: A protected location, a reliable power supply and good GNSS and mobile reception.
One important technical point GPS/GNSS positioning and data transmission are two different things. The device can work out its position, but mobile network coverage is needed for that data to appear in GPScom Server straight away. Where there is no coverage, what happens next depends on the memory and capabilities of the device you have chosen.

Please note Which functions are available depends on the device model, how it is installed, which sensors are connected, network coverage and the service plan chosen. A GPS tracking solution is a complement to the required marine safety and emergency equipment, not a replacement for it.
