GPS tracker installation guide
GPS Tracker Installation Guide
Correct placement, safe wiring and reliable GNSS reception for cars, motorcycles, boats and commercial vehicles.
Installing in a car
For the best reception, choose a protected spot inside the cabin, high up and near the windscreen.
Recommended mounting points
Behind the dashboard, above the glovebox, or under a plastic trim panel near the windscreen.
Areas to avoid
Away from heat, moisture, moving parts, heavy wiring looms and substantial metal obstructions.
Correct orientation
The label or logo face should point towards the sky or the windscreen, as the model's manual specifies.
Avoid metal obstructions
Keep the device away from metal beams, brackets and closed metal covers, all of which weaken GNSS.
Protection from moisture
Choose a dry location and protect the connections and cable runs from water and condensation.
Fuse the supply
Fit an appropriate fuse close to the start of the positive feed, and secure the wiring properly.
Away from strong interference
Avoid amplifiers, subwoofers, high-current wiring and other likely sources of electromagnetic interference.
Check after installation
Confirm the device is online, the position is right, the supply voltage and ignition state read correctly, then take a short test drive.
Installing on a motorcycle
Concealed placement, protection from vibration and moisture, away from the engine and exhaust.
Mounting points
Under the seat, in the tail section, or behind a plastic panel, away from large metal parts.
Areas to avoid
Away from the engine, the exhaust, a metal fuel tank, the wheels and anywhere water collects.
Correct orientation
Wherever possible, the label or logo face should point upwards through plastic.
Do not enclose it in metal
Do not shut the tracker under a metal fuel tank or inside a closed metal frame.
Moisture & vibration
Secure the device well and protect the connections from water, chafing and constant vibration.
Fuse near the battery
Fit the fuse as close as you can to the original power source.
Away from powerful audio
On touring motorcycles, keep clear of amplifiers, speakers and heavy audio wiring.
Function check
Check position, power, ignition and a stable online connection before handing the bike back.
Installing on a boat
A dry, high position, protection from salt water, and clear GNSS reception through fibreglass or glass.
A dry, protected position
In a cabin or a fibreglass-protected space, as high as possible and with an unobstructed view of the sky.
Unsuitable areas
Away from the engine room, the bilge, battery fumes and metal bulkheads.
Correct orientation
The active GNSS face should point upwards. Fibreglass and glass are usually better than metal covers.
Avoid metal obstructions
Keep clear of stainless panels, metal housings and large cable bundles.
Moisture & salt
Use protected cable runs and properly sealed connections.
Marine-grade fuse
Fit a suitable fuse near the battery or the distribution panel.
Away from VHF & audio
Keep clear of amplifiers, VHF sets, antenna boosters and heavy audio wiring.
Check before casting off
Check the GNSS position, the online connection, the supply and the engine state before departure.
Installing in a truck or van
A protected position in the cab, clear GNSS reception, a stable supply and correct ignition detection.
Mounting points
High in the cab, behind the dashboard, or under a plastic panel with good reception.
Unsuitable areas
Away from the engine bay, heating elements, metal panels and high-current wiring.
Correct orientation
The GNSS face should have as clear a view as possible towards the top of the cab or the windscreen.
Metal obstructions
Avoid metal beams, tachograph housings, converters and closed metal compartments.
Moisture & wear
Protect the tracker and its cables from water, sharp edges, vibration and service access points.
Supply fuse
Protect the positive feed with the right fuse, close to the original source.
Interference
Keep clear of heavy electrical installations, converters, audio and RF equipment.
Final check
Confirm the live position, the online state, the voltage and a correct ignition reading before handing the vehicle back.
Technical check before the vehicle is handed back
Before the car, motorcycle, boat or truck leaves the installer, we recommend completing the final functional check together with GPScom technical support. That is how we confirm the device is online, that power and ignition are being read correctly, and that the position is showing normally on the platform.
