FMS Plug Location (common spots)

Although the FMS cable is standardised, the plug's location varies by manufacturer/model and equipment level. Below you'll find the most common locations:

1) Behind the fuse box (passenger side)
Example: SCANIA S/R/G/P Euro 6

Scania FMS Plug Location

2) Near the fuse box (passenger side)
Example: DAF XF Euro 6

DAF XF FMS Plug Location 1

DAF XF FMS Plug Location 2

3) Behind the radio (lower deck)
Example: Volvo FH Euro 5 / Renault T Euro 6

4) Behind the tachograph (upper deck)
Example: Mercedes Actros MP5 Euro 6

Tip: If you can't find the FMS socket, check the passenger side (fuses) first, then the dashboard (radio/tachograph), especially on Euro 6 vehicles.
Why FMS and not plain OBD?
  • On heavy vehicles, OBD-II is often not the “main” data access point.
  • FMS is the standardised interface for fleet data (speed, RPM, fuel, etc.).
  • With J1939/FMS you get more “accurate” and consistent telemetry data for fleets.
